This year I will be commissioning a work for solo percussion using a compact setup of smaller instruments (gongs, skinned instruments, small metals, etc). My rationale for the desired instrumentation is to give percussionists an addition to the literature which can be performed on portable instruments in venues such as middle schools, churches, and theaters, that do not have anything but basic percussion instruments available (i.e. timpani, xylophone, and the normal assortment of broken or incomplete instruments).
If you are a graduate student in composition or a composer and wish to hear more about this commission, please contact me to discuss further. This work would (hopefully) be premiered in Spring, 2009.

Conducting MIDI Sounds with a Wii Remote
I came across this video while looking for information on Wii Orchestra, an upcoming title that allows armchair conducting to take on a whole new life! I'm impressed by the sensitivity to the arm motions. Honestly, this is better than I've seen most amateur orchestras do!
